Dr. Ahmad Bazzi, a researcher specializing in wireless communication at New York University (NYU) in Abu Dhabi, was recently granted a new United States (US) patent. This patent significantly contributes to achieving faster data rates for signals transmitted through the Bluetooth standard, leading to notable improvements in audio quality and enhanced user experiences with headsets.
The patent, officially granted as U.S. Patent No. 11,496,343 on November 8, 2022, originated from a filing in 2021. Dr. Ahmad Bazzi’s inventive method focuses on decoding a radio frequency signal carrying a sequence of symbols modulated by Continuous Phase Modulation (CPM). This groundbreaking invention serves as the foundation for the rapid and reliable advancement of Bluetooth technology, particularly in the realm of audio applications. Additionally, Bazzi introduces a corresponding decoder associated with this innovation.
Notably, the technology outlined in this patent gained significant traction in the market during Bazzi’s service at RivieraWaves. Key clients, including industry giant Apple, demonstrated considerable interest and demand for this inventive solution. The patent emphasizes a momentous leap in Bluetooth technology, specifically addressing the critical need for heightened data rates and improved signal decoding, particularly in audio-centric applications.
The full US patent is cited as ‘Method for decoding an RF signal bearing a sequence of symbols modulated by CPM and associated decoder,’ with inventors Ahmad Bazzi and Lisa Meilhac. U.S. Patent No. 11,496,343 was officially granted on November 8, 2022. You can reach Dr. Ahmad Bazzi on Twitter or Linkedin. Also, Dr. Bazzi publishes free open source educational lectures on wireless communications on his YouTube channel.
